YOND honoured with «Award for Good Buildings in the City of Zurich»

For approximately 70 years, the City of Zurich has honoured the best buildings, monuments and facilities in the city with the «Award for Good Buildings in the City of Zurich». With this award, the city promotes a diverse and high-quality building culture as well as public awareness and open dialogue about urban development and architecture. Among the twelve projects is also the YOND building by Swiss Prime Site, which is in accordance with the trend towards flexibility.

Awarded YOND

Our real estate development YOND represents simplicity and functionality. It is conceived from the ground up for our customers and their needs. With ceilings of 5.5 metres, the spaces in the building are configured for flexible usage and can be adapted to the individual requirements of tenants. The structure of the rental space can also be continually modified to adapt to changing situations, both in terms of the size and the spatial design. This is made possible by a system of mezzanine floors as well as the robust building structure, which can withstand large loads. The striking minimalistic architecture, high ceilings and extensive glasswork lend the building a touch of industrial atmosphere. The entire area is interspersed with publicly accessible spaces and paths that enliven the site and promote exchange. Located in Zurich Albisrieden, YOND provides space for service companies, creative and commercial professionals, as well as start-ups. The building houses a co-working space with a childcare facility, a distillery, marketing agencies, sports and physical therapy centres, a bakery and different other service providers. Designed by SLIK Architects, YOND was completed in 2019.

Architectural and landscape architecture offices as well as building owners whose projects (new buildings, conversions, renovations, extensions as well as infrastructure and open space facilities) were realised or completed between 2016 and 2020 were eligible to participate. 117 buildings and outdoor areas were submitted for this year's award.

The assessment criteria are made up of four aspects:

  • Urban design and architectural heritage: An outstanding contribution is made to the quality of the urban space and the architectural development of the architectural heritage.
  • Social contribution: The object offers a high utility value, contributes with its design quality to identification with the living space and promotes social exchange.
  • Contribution to economic performance: Through high-quality densification and innovation, the building provides productive development opportunities for a growing population.
  • Responsible use of the environment: The project demonstrates careful use of resources, optimisation of energy consumption and low impact on the natural environment.

A total of twelve awards and nine acknowledgements were given by the interdisciplinary jury of experts. In addition, a public prize was also awarded. The ceremony and announcement of the winners took place on 20 September 2021.

We are delighted to be recognised for our vision for creating living spaces!
